Becoming an urban farmer: Day One

I began to think about becoming a farmer a couple of years ago during my last visit to Memphis. That weekend my high school was celebrating our 20th year reunion. I have always been stressed as a city dweller. That means quite a lot considering how much I loathed visiting relatives in the country back home. I was too wrapped up in television to ever feel comfortable with silence. My fear of dogs assured I wouldn't stray too far from the front porch.

Two Weeks Down............

We've been in school for a couple of weeks now, and the excitement is bubbling over. It feels wonderful to have so many new faces (under and over 18) who want to be in this great place of learning.

I'm expecting big things this year.

With our annual Harvest Fest seemingly right around the corner, I think that another trip to the dunk tank might be in order.

Oh no...I think I might have just jinxed myself.

:o)

Urban Patchwork - The Farm Next Door

The urban farm is the wave of the "future". I think it should be more accurately labeled as a return to the past. Communities have always been uniquely connected to their agriculture. It's obvious that, without food, the community is doomed, and in this era of cramped spaces and food shortages, empowering people to sustain themselves would usher in a era of overall personal pride.

Cooking with Flower and Sunshine

My daughters love to cook. This is not in the "cringe and eat it anyway just because papa's a nice guy" kind of eating experience. They can REALLY cook.

...and they are avid Food Network (tm) fans.

So a couple of years ago, they came up with the idea of having their own cooking show. Life took over for a while, but they finally filmed their first segment.

Cooking with Flower and Sunshine
is the hello to the world! Enjoy! It's truly delicious!!
